Natural Ways to Boost Immunity

In these times, many herbalists are suggesting we look even more deeply into the ways that food and plants can be used as medicine to nourish and heal our immune systems. Here are a few natural ways to boost immunity:

  • Fire Cider Tonic - one teaspoon a day during cold and flu seasons. Fire Cider is a “witches brew” of apple cider vinegar, honey, oranges, lemons, several root vegetables and spices. It is just the immunity boost we need :)

  • Echinacea Tea - Sip this cozy tea a few times a week. According to Traditional Medicinals, Native American tribes used echinacea, or purple coneflower, for hundreds of years before it made its way into Western herbalism. It is now one of the most widely studied herbs for its ability to promote a healthy immune response.

  • EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) Tapping - This is a 10-minute video teaching a tapping technique that helps to reduce overwhelm and stress around the recent virus. If you’ve never done tapping before, it’s a great tool. You tap on acupressure points and use mantras to separate emotions from thoughts.

  • Affirmation: “I am in vibrant health.” - You might bring your left hand to your heart and repeat this 3-5 times several times a day.

  • Use essential oils to decrease stress and boost immunity. doTerra’s On Guard essential oil is an excellent choice. I’ve been diffusing OnGuard, using the cleaner concentrate on all surfaces, spraying the misting sanitizer in my car and on public transit, and even using the OnGuard toothpaste. It’s keeping me healthy thus far!

  • Lower your sugar and carbohydrate intake. Try to eat as many local, seasonal, and organic fruits and vegetables as you can. Sugar and carbs increase inflammation in the body and make us more prone to illness.

  • Practice Legs Up the Wall 10-15 minutes a day to keep your lymphatic system moving.

  • Use Eucalyptus (either the plant or diffuse the essential oil) in a hot shower or bath.

I hope one or more of these works for you! Just a quick note - I’m not being paid to list any of these and I have no authority to prescribe. These products and strategies are all things I’m personally using to stay resilient in these times. Would love to hear if they work for you :)
