20 Ease-Full Ways to Build Resilience
The beginning of 2020 has been quite the rollercoaster ride for myself and for many I know. Lots of highs and lots of lows.
I’ve found myself continually thinking:
how do I stay afloat in such times
how do I protect and nourish my own well-being
how do I stay resilient (physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally)
what are the small, daily rituals I can do to build resilience
Here is my list of 20 ways to support resilience:
Listen for the birds. Walk outside and see how many different bird sounds you can hear.
Look for something green outside - a plant, a flower. Pot your own indoor or outdoor plant.
Make art. Even if it’s just pulling out a white sheet of paper and crayons.
Mindfully prepare a meal for yourself.
Brew a cup of tea.
Turn your cell phone off for an hour (and then try two hours).
Light a candle.
Breathe. Take 3-4 deep breaths into the belly. Try alternate nostril breathing.
Quiet your mind for just 30 seconds.
Stretch, go for a walk around the block, get some fresh air.
Take a hot bath or shower (bonus points for adding Epsom salts).
Volunteer.
Bring your left hand to your heart and right hand to your belly. Feel your heart beat and listen to your breath.
Play your favorite song.
PLAY - whatever that means to you.
Schedule a friend date or just say hello to your neighbor.
Buy yourself flowers.
Create your own mantra or affirmation. Ex. “My day unfolds with grace and ease” - from Gabby Bernstein’s book Super Attractor.
Write down 3 things you’re grateful for.
Drink a glass of water.
Add yours. What makes you feel spacious and resilient?
I believe the little things - the daily habits, rituals, patterns - add up to create a much stronger whole. I’d love to hear what is helping you to feel resilient in these times.
